About our Coaches

The NorthLight Vaulters are a new club with old roots focused on providing clinics for all levels of vaulters and their coaches. Our coaches are a husband-and-wife team, Colin and Raven Schmidt. Both are seasoned international competitors and passionate about the sport of vaulting.

Colin Schmidt

Colin represented Canada internationally, and was the Canadian Men's champion, from 1995 to 2010. As part of the Canadian Equestrian Team, he competed at the World Equestrian Games in 1998, 2002, 2006, and 2010. Colin was the Master Course Conductor for Equestrian Vaulting Coaching in BC from 2003 to 2013, and was awarded Horse Council BC Coach of the Year in 2006. From 2011 forward he has lead the design and development of Equine Canada's new learn to ride program (yet to have the name finalized) that fully incorporates the principles of the FUNdamentals in the Long Term Athlete Development model.

Raven Schmidt

Raven started vaulting at summer camp in 2004 and was instantly hooked. She travelled to Australia to compete in 2008 for her first international experience, and continues to compete and train at the international levels. Not content to just vault herself, Raven started coaching as early as she could by completing the Provincial Assistant Vaulting Trainer course in 2006, and became fully certified in 2008. Raven is passionate about learning and continues to expand her knowledge through other certifications. Both Raven and Colin are Gymnastics Canada Gym Foundations Trained and Raven has been a volunteer coach at Twisters Gymnastics in Abbotsford.
